Our Belief

TOUCHING LIVES WITH THE POWER OF GOSPELWe are an autonomous, evangelical church, within the Pentecostal movement. We believe that we are called by God to share Christian care and practical cooperation in carrying out the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ to the East Indian community in Edmonton, Canada.

We believe that our call is to work in spirit of love and unity with all true believers in our common ministry within the Kingdom of God.
"Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you and pray to the Lord on its behalf for in its welfare you will find your welfare."  Jeremiah 29:7
We are founded on the following truth

The Bible to be the only inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God.
(John 16:13; II Timothy 3:15-17; II Peter 1:21; I Thessalonians 2:13)

That there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
(Deut. 6:4; Isaiah 43:10-11; Matt. 28:18; Luke 3:22; John 14:16)

In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ,
(John 1:1, 14, 20:28-29; Philippians 2:6-11; Isaiah 9:6; Col. 2:9)

His virgin birth,
(Matthew 1:18; Luke 1:34-35; Isaiah 7:14)

His sinless life,
(II Cor. 5:21; Heb. 4:15, 7:26-27; I John 3:5; I Peter 2:22)

His miracles,
(Matthew 4:23; Luke 6:17-19; John 3:2)

His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood,
(Colossians 1:14, 20; Romans 5:8-9; Ephesians 1:7)

His bodily resurrection,
(I Corinthians 15:3-4; Luke 24:4-7; 36-48; Revelation 1:17-18)

His ascension to the right hand of the Father,
(Acts 2:23; 5:30-31; I Peter 3:22)

His personal return in power and in glory,
(Acts 1:11; Philippians 2:9-11; I Thessalonians 1:10; 4:13-18; John 14:1-3)

That justification by faith in the atonement of Jesus Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are absolutely essential for the salvation of lost and sinful man.
(Romans 3:24-25; John 3:3-7; I John 5:11-13; Ephesians 2:1-16; Revelation 5:9; Acts 4:23; I Corinthians 6:11)

That the prime agency for the work of God's Kingdom is the local church functioning under the sovereignty of our Lord Jesus Christ. The church have been entrusted the ordinances of Believer's Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
(Acts 2:41-47, 16:4-5; Matthew 16:18; 28:18-20; Ephesians 1:22-23; I Corinthians 12:1; I Corinthians 11:23-26)

In the present ministry of the Holy Spirit; which includes: the baptism in the Holy Spirit as a distinct experience from regeneration; His indwelling whereby the Christian is enabled to live a godly life; His supernatural gifting and empowering of the church for its work, life and worship.
(Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8, 2:1-4, 10:44-46; I Corinthians 12, 14)

In the return of Jesus Christ, to consummate His Kingdom in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; those who are saved unto the resurrection of life, and those who are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
(John 5:28-29; Mark 14:62; II Thessalonians 1:2-10; Revelation 1:5-7; Revelation 20:4-5, 11-12)

In the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
(John 17:11, 21-23; Romans 12:4-5; Ephesians 4:11-16)

Our History

Maranatha Gospel Fellowship started as a prayer meeting about 40 years ago. It was the only Malayalam spiritual meeting at that time. In the early part of 1970s many Malayalee believers came together to worship God with out any denominational difference under the leadership of Bro & Sis. P. O.Oomen (Achenkunju & Marykutty) and Bro.& Sis. Philip Abraham (Kunjachen & Kunjamma). As the number of immigrants coming to Canada increased, many Malayalees moved to Edmonton. Eventually God allowed many Malayalee churches and congregations to be formed in Edmonton. We acknowledge the hard work of Bros. Achenkunju and Kunjachen in doing the ground work for establishing Maranatha Gospel Fellowship.

In 1992 Maranatha Gospel Fellowship registered as a church. Until Dec 2006 we worshiped mainly on Saturday nights. On December 9, 2006, Under Pastor Wilson Kadavil's leadership church took a new level by introducing full service on Sunday mornings and there by establishing its name in Edmonton as the only Full Gospel Malayalee Pentecostal Church. Our first service was held at Pastor Wilson Kadavil's house (670 Henderson St, Edmonton). January 2007, Christ Family Fellowship graciously opened their facilites for our worship service.

November 1, 2008 we moved in to our own facility at 2411-96 Street, Edmonton, Alberta. God was so gracious to us to buy our own facility in a very short time after we established our church a year before. In December 2009 we added another 1400 Sq.ft to the church. Now we have a facitily of Appro.3500 Sq.ft.

The first service started with five families (Pastor Wilson Kadavil family, Bro.Koshy Abraham family, Bro.Saju Skaria family, Bro. Saji Kochikuzhiyil family and Sister. Anitha Roy).Later in the first year Sister. Anitha family moved to Toronto, ON. Soon after Kochikuzhiyil family left the church. Today on December 31, 2010 about 45 families call MGF as their home church.Sunday worshippers are predominantly Malayalees but, Tamil & Telugu believers also worship with us. Spiritual growth of our children is of paramount importance to us, so our messages and worships songs are multilingual.

For the last 40 years, Maranatha Gospel fellowship has been a light house in the City of Edmonton. Many people came to know Jesus and accept Him as their personal savior through this fellowship. Almighty God had also provided us with the opportunity and means to help many needy people around the world. We were instrumental in starting the Western Pentecostal Conference 23 years ago.

Our prayer is that we will continue to serve the South Indian community of Edmonton, enlarge our territory to the South Asian community of Edmonton as God leads and direct us and be a blessing to the City.

Maranatha, pronounced as Mar'-ah-na'-tha, is a word found in the New Testament of Aramaic origin, the language spoken by Jews at the time of Jesus. It literally means "Come, O Lord".

It is generally believed that the early church often greeted one another by saying "Maranatha".

Christians lived in constant expectation that the God may come any day to establish the golden ages of eternity where there will be no more sin, no more sorrow, no more death, and no more trouble. Infact, this is something that we seem to forget in this busy world. We live as if the second coming of Christ is till far away. But if we look at the signs of our time (2 Timothy 3: 1-5), it is clear that we must also greet one another by shouting- "Maranatha, Our Lord is Coming".  Hence our name Maranatha Gospel Fellowship.
